You don't need to pay money to join us. You just need to love original theatre! We specialise in newly written plays, and we encourage writers to send us their material. We organise a play writing competition - From Page to Stage, and we are also keen to seek out actresses, actors, technical experts, and lovers of customer service to work front of house.  We also like to turn our hand to re-visiting classics and giving them a bit of a twist.  In Summer 2013, for example, we are hoping that Shakespeare will be proud of our version of Hamlet ...   Find out more about us at www.originaltheatre.net

About Leigh Operatic and Dramatic Society The West Leigh Operatic &; Dramatic Society was formed in 1915 as a result of a concert party organised during the first World War. The Society expanded and in 1917 became known as Leigh Operatic &; Dramatic Society. Within 2 years the Society's success increased the membership and made it necessary to move from the original Clarke's College in London Road to more commodious premises at Elm Hall. Over the second World War the Society had to scale down its productions but continued on by regularly giving first-rate revue type entertainment to the troops around the county. Ours is a record of which we feel justly proud. We have presented shows ranging from grand opera to the avant-garde (including 3 world premieres) as well as countless entertainments for charitable organisations. Today LODS continues this tradition, always ready to take a risk in order to offer something, something exciting, but above all something entertaining. We have a lot of new and exciting shows coming up, so we look forward to seeing you there!

The Players present one production each year, at the start of Advent. Since 1952 the plays have always been taken from the Medieval Mystery Cycles, selected and edited to make a performance lasting one-and-a-half hours, with about sixty speaking roles shared between twenty to thirty actors. Performances take place twice nightly from Monday to Friday in the first week of December, with rehearsals commencing in October.   In 1946 the group was founded in the City of London, in St Peter-upon-Cornhill Church, and the venue has always been a church close to the centre of the city - the current base is in Shadwell, just east of Tower Bridge. Although the Players are church-based it is not a purely religious group and members mainly belong because the plays are an interesting insight into fifteenth century drama and are produced to a high standard.   We are a friendly crowd and we welcome new members of any age or level of experience, whether they want to be performers, backstage crew, costumiers, front-of-house or anything else connected with the productions!
