Taking place at The Teacher Building, St Enoch Square on Wednesday 22nd September, Make a Splash! is a new venture which aims to attract more people to participate in the arts and crafts. From choirs to knitting circles, amateur dramatics groups to art clubs – this event is for any organisation which takes part in the arts for the love of it, and would like more people to join them.
The information and training event is backed by a small funding programme. So people can apply for between £250 - £2,000 to try something new to get people involved – or plug a gap in their area with the art or craft form they love.
Make a Splash! is run by Voluntary Arts Scotland and is part of ‘People Making Waves’, a major new project co-ordinated by Volunteer Development Scotland to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
Fiona Campbell, Executive Officer at Voluntary Arts Scotland said: “I’m really pleased that we are able to offer this opportunity for groups in Glasgow to take time to think about how they can get more people involved in their arts and crafts activities. Especially as we know that taking part in the arts brings so many benefits, and is so much fun!â€
Make a Splash! will take place at The Teacher Building, 14 St Enoch Square, Glasgow on Wednesday 22nd September from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with a free buffet available at 1.30pm and 6.30pm. Anybody interested in attending the event should book their free place at www.vascotland.org.uk/makeasplash or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 0131 225 7355.
Notes to Editors:
Make a Splash! is part of People Making Waves, a major new project being co-ordinated by Volunteer Development Scotland. People Making Waves has been funded by Legacy Trust UK and the Creative Scotland National Lottery Fund as part of The Scottish Project, a programme of activity to celebrate the legacy of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Scotland. Voluntary Arts Scotland supports and promotes participation in the arts and crafts, and will be delivering 32 Make a Splash! events across Scotland between October 2009 - March 2011. At the end of their project, those taking part will be asked to write a real life ‘story’ detailing how it went, and their hopes for the future - creating a lively legacy for the Olympics in Scotland. They will also be able to provide updates on their progress on the project website.
