Open Auditions - "Bent" by Martin Sherman

The Woodhouse Players are holding open auditions for "Bent" by Martin Sherman at 2pm on Saturday 22 February, at the Welsh Church Hall, 879 High Road Leytonstone London E11 1HR. Performance dates 30, 31 May, 4, 6, 7 June. Beginning in Berlin in 1934, the play follows Max as he and his lover Rudy find their hedonistic lifestyle suddenly and unexpectedly turned upside-down under the Nazi regime. While this play highlights the little-told story of the persecution of gay people by the Nazis, it has the ability to transcend the horrors of the holocaust and celebrate dignity, courage, identity and love under the harshest of conditions. The play is a love story against all odds that aims to provide a powerful and memorable experience. This play contains challenging, adult themes, scenes of a sexual nature and some violence. Not suitable for under-16s. Full details, including character notes and audition pieces, on the website http://www.woodhouseplayers.co.uk/productions_201405bent.html

Good Moaning! We shall say zis only once. . . Join the Woodhouse Players for this stage version of the popular sitcom from the 1980s. The play revolves around the adventures of René, a cafe owner in war-torn occupied France. As René and his wife Edith try to hide a priceless painting ("The fallen Madonna with the big boobies" by von Klomp) from the Germans, news arrives that Hitler himself will be visiting the cafe of René Artois. While the competing German authorities try to turn this to their advantage..., René and the resistance launch a counter-plot, which they put into action as the cheeky waitresses Yvette and Mimi serve René's customers and blow up inflatable Hitlers. Will Crabtree's appalling French save the day? Will Herr Flick finally give in to the desires of Helga? Will Captain Alberto get to perform his world-famous impersonation of the Führer? Will General von Schmelling and Gruber hatch a better plan than René? Come along and find out!
